Answer to Question 2:
Hi John
When it comes to safety nets employers must
ensure that:
- The nets are constructed of materials of
sufficient strength to catch a falling person or debris.
- Perimeter nets are in position before any
work is commenced.
- Nets are hung as close as practicable to the
underside of the work area.
- There is sufficient tension and clearance to
prevent a falling person contacting any surface or structure below the net.
- Safety nets must only be installed by a
competent person (FSET or CSCS card).
- Perimeter nets not greater then 2 m below
the working area and at least 2.5 m from the working point.
- Nets need to be stored correctly (dry,
shaded areas with good circulation) to avoid damage.
- No combustible materials should not allowed
to accumulate in suspended nets.
- No welding/oxy cutting allowed to be carried
out above nets.
- Nets require inspection after installation,
relocation or repair.
- Nets should not be used in environments
where they are exposed to chemicals or heat.
