Dear Sarah,

Yes, you must be qualified and certified to carry out an ergonomic/VDU Assessment.  You would be required to complete a VDU Assessors training course (usually a 1 day course). The aim of this specialised course would be to provide you with the information and training necessary to perform ergonomic risk assessments of VDU workstations in your office.  At the end of the course you will be able to:

1. Appreciate the importance of Ergonomics in workstation design

2. Define relevant Irish & EU legislation

3. Identify workstation/office hazards and risks

4. Identify incorrect/correct working postures and finally

4. Carry out a VDU/Ergonomic Risk assessment in a competent manner
