Welcome to the Safety Zone, Phoenix Safety's monthly newsletter
Lets Cut Out Dermatitis

You might be surprised to find out that the skin is the biggest organ in your body. Although you might not think of as an organ, your skin is very important.  It covers and protects everything inside your body.  However we can expose our skin, especially the hands, to chemicals, epoxy resins or oils which can lead to increased wear and tear of the skin, or the development of an allergy to a substance.  Dermatitis or eczema usually affects the hands or sometimes the face.  It can force you to change your occupation.  Read on and see how you can help prevent the most common occupational diseases of dermatitis and eczema from interacting with you.

Women In Construction

Over the next number of years, the 'face' of the construction industry will change. Its workforce will become more diverse. It will include more women workers and workers with different backgrounds and experiences. Read on to learn about health and safety issues found in such a diverse workforce.

Q&A section with Paul Tierney

Paul,
Our engineers carry out service, maintenance, calibration, testing, etc on laboratory equipment in all types of laboratories all over Ireland, including hospitals, pharmaceutical companies etc. We want to ensure that, as an employer, we address all our legal requirements regarding employee health check programmes we may need to have in place. Could you let us know what regulations we need to adhere to - including any codes of practice that are available, medical tests the engineers may need to undertake at regular intervals, etc. and relevant information covering this issue.
Eilish

Hi Paul,
Is eye wash acceptable from a health and safety first aid point of view?
Bill
