Welcome to the Safety Zone, Phoenix Safety's monthly newsletter
Walk Safe

In 2007, more pedestrians have been killed on our roads than any other kind of road user. As of 15th February, 39 people have died on Irish roads this year and 17 of these have been pedestrians. Last year 84 pedestrians were killed, that is nearly two pedestrians a week.

Excavator Quick Hitches: HSA Safety Alert
In recent weeks two people in this country have been killed after been struck by the bucket of an excavator. Last week the HSA (Health and Safety Authority) issued a safety alert warning of the dangers associated with the operation of excavators, particularly those fitted with a ‘quick hitch’ device.

Q&A section with Paul Tierney

I have a query regarding training required for employees working in a factory with vehicles that come under the Construction Regs 2006 e.g. JCB, Teleporter. Is it necessary for us to provide this training for employees who may work on these vehicles?
Regards Paula

If an employee is off work with a medical cert and the company is paying him due to a work related injury, what happens if he is called into work after 5pm? is he due overtime and should he be paid at all?  It has been brought to the GMs attention that he should not be on the premises to work but he does not care
Can you please advise on this?
John
