Answer to Question 2:

Hi Catherine,

The word from the HSA on this issue comes from the 'Guidance on the management of manual handling in the workplace' publication which is available to download form the HSA website www.hsa.ie.  It states "The length of time taken for training depends on many factors, not least the level at which the training is being taken.  The duration of the training course should be tailored to the number and complexity of handling procedures being taught".

There is no straight answer from the HSA but from our experience we allow 3 hours per course for a maximum of 12 people, but this varies from class to class and the amount of interaction.

Hope this answers your question.

Regards,
Paul
