Rock 'n' Roll Risks
U2

As we all got excited about U2 at Croke Park last weekend, we were reminded of the latest guidance on noise regulations for the entertainment industry from the H.S.A.

In terms of noise, the music & entertainment sector has it all: high volumes and loud special effects. What can be a very pleasurable experience for people attending an event can be a serious occupational hazard for workers due to repeated long-term exposure,” according to Anne Maria O’Connor, Senior Inspector with the Health and Safety Authority.

Q&A section with Paul Tierney

Hi Paul,

We are currently carrying out risk assessments of the production area with regard to whether drinking, or for that matter eating, is safe.

We carry some solvents in our stock which look quite similar to water when in a plastic container. We have to seriously consider banning the consumption of food and drink in the production area.

Can this decision be justified? Is there any basis in Irish legislation for this action?

Thanks,
Padraig.

Paul,

I have recently had 2 people on a first aid refresher course and they came back full of praise for and requesting a defibrillator. Whilst I agree that it is important to treat a cardiac patient promptly, should we not be leaving these type of emergencies to the professionals?

Would welcome your views.

Many thanks,
Martin
