Answer to Question 2:

Anthony,

The minimum requirements for Visual Display Units (VDU) equipment or Display Screen Equipment (DSE) as it is referred to in Legislation can be found in Schedule 4 of the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007. These requirements set out what is required for the equipment used, the work environment and the employee computer interface.

Minimum Requirements for office chairs state:

  • The work chair shall be stable and allow the user easy freedom of

movement and a comfortable position.

  • The seat shall be adjustable in height.
  • The seat back shall be adjustable in both height and tilt.
  • A footrest shall be made available to any user who requires one.

The back rest should be designed to provide support for the lower back to help prevent strain. Every employee working at a VDU should be provided with an ergonomic workstation assessment. These assessments must include a demonstration on the adjustment of your chair and the correct sitting posture.

Thanks for your enquiry.

Regards,
Paul Tierney
