Welcome to the Safety Zone, Phoenix Safety's monthly newsletter
Deadly Threat In The Office
Long haul air travel is not the only thing to pose a risk of potentially fatal blood clots.  A leading New Zealand study has found that office workers glued to their computer screens are also at risk.

REACH Out And Stay Safe

A new European law known as REACH has been described as the most important EU legislation for 20 years.  The new REACH regulations are due to come into force across Europe in June 2007.  It’s important that all manufacturers, importers and downstream users of chemicals are prepared, and fully aware of the impact this new legislation will have on their business.

Q&A section with Paul Tierney

Where an employee refuses to carry out work because it may be dangerous or he reports an employer to the HSA, where others or himself may be at risk in the work place, is this employee afforded any protection under health and safety law if the employer reacts to that employee in any negative way?

Regards Paul

Recently one of our forklift operators was hit on the back of the head with a container door that had blown closed in a high wind.  When asked had he secured the door to the container he told me that the driver had opened that door and he presumed it was secured.  Is it the driver’s responsibility to open and close the container doors? And if so is it there responsibility to ensure the doors are secured?

Regards,
Stephen
