Safe Driving this weekend

Research shows that using a hand-held or hands-free mobile phone while driving is a significant distraction.

Q&A section with Paul Tierney

Dear Paul,

Hopefully you can help me because I seem to be getting conflicting info elsewhere.

We have two offices, one is in a converted old (1800's) residential building and the other is a relatively newer building complex. We are updating our safety statement and are wondering about fire safety.
The first building has no fire certificate and I would imagine there is no structural fire proofing. There is one fire escape on each floor, should there be more than one exit?
The newer building is three floors and the only fire exit route is the main stairs and then through the main front door, there is no external stairs for exit from the other floors. The landlord has given us some portable fire escape ladders which are very flimsy.
Last but not least on the ground floor there are security clasps on the windows to prevent the window opening more than about an inch but these cannot be removed to let you escape through the window if you had too. Then upstairs the windows are very big that you don't like to open them too much.
Can you please advise if these are adequate or legal??

Is there any guidelines or any information we can get ??

Thanks,
Maria

Hi Paul

Can you tell me what the current status is with regard to the use of Safety Cages on Forklifts - I know they are not outlawed at present but is it correct that they will be trying to outlaw them in the near future?

Thanks
Gavin
