Welcome to the Safety Zone, Phoenix Safety's monthly newsletter
Dramatic Increase in the Number of Workplace Fatalities

So far this year, 62 deaths have been reported to the HSA. Unfortunately we are now facing almost a 25% increase in the number of workplace fatalities in 2005.

If You Ignore, More Discomfort's in Store

You are typing at your PC when you start to feel a tingling sensation in your hands and your neck muscles begin to ache.  You ignore it and work on because you must finish that report.  Stop! You may be experiencing the early symptoms of a MSD.

Q&A Section with Paul Tierney

Q.
I have just come to terms with the requirements of the 1989 Act and now I hear I have to start all over again with the new 2005 Act.  Is there a lot of change and what extra do I need to do? Help!
Marie HR Manager Wexford.

Q.
I have recently informed my manager that I am pregnant.  Am I entitled to paid time off for medical consultations?
Patricia

Q.
I am the manager of a busy Cork city centre office.  I was asked if we carry out PAT testing in the office as it is a legal requirement.  Can you tell me what is PAT testing and do I have to carry it out?
Regards, George
