E.R.T. Leaders Course (Advanced Course)
Course Aim:
This course provides hot fire and Breathing Apparatus training in a variety of realistic emergency situations. The course is conducted at Fire Brigade Training Centres throughout the country.
Course Objectives:
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Carry out crew command exercises, instilling the principles of good supervision.
- Carry out hot fire exercises applying leadership, command and control skills.
- Supervise Breathing Apparatus teams to a competent standard.
- Communicate and brief concisely and effectively.
- Implement good teaching practices with practical applications.
Course Content:
- Fire-ground Safety.
- Practical use of Portable Fire Extinguishers (indoors and outdoors).
- Hose and Foam-making Drills.
- Breathing Apparatus Exercises.
- Working in heat and smoke.
- Search and Rescue Exercises.
- Entrapped Procedure Exercise.
- Heat and Humidity Exercise.
- Dealing with Car Fires.
- Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG) - Leak and Fire Fighting Exercises.
- Practical Chemical Spill Exercise.
- Confined Space Exercise.
- Course Review and Close.
Course Requirements:
Previous experience in the use of Breathing Apparatus is required. Participants should be physically and medically fit and have completed the Emergency Response Team Members training.
Methods of Training:
Percentage of theory to practical organised to suit the requirements of the client. Generally the courses consist of 25% theory and 75% practical.
Course Attendance:
- Maximum of 12 participants.
- 2 day’s duration.
