Manual Handling Instructor Course

 

Course Aim:    

To ensure that participants acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to be competent Manual Handling Instructors and Assessors.

Course Objectives:

On completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a high standard of knowledge in the relevant legislation.
  • Apply the principles of safe handling.
  • Complete a Manual Handling Risk Assessment.
  • Deliver a theoretical and practical Manual Handling training session.

Course Content:

Day 1: Legislation, Ergonomics & Design.
Day 2: Anatomy, Physiology, Fitness & Flexibility with Chartered Physiotherapist.
Day 3: Manual Handling Risk Assessment, Training skills.
Day 4: Practical Lifting, Manual Handling Course, Problem Solving, Exam preparation.
Day 5: Written & practical examinations.

Who Should Attend:

This course is aimed at people who wish to become qualified manual handing instructors.  Participants will need to be capable of a certain level of fitness and flexibility in order to successfully complete the practical element of the course.  Any person suffering with back, knee or hip problems is unsuitable for this course as is a person suffering from an injury which is likely to be aggravated by practical lifting.

Assessment & Certification:

At the end of the course, successful participants will be awarded a certificate which will be valid for 5 years.  Each successful participant will also receive a manual handling instructor’s pack which will enable them to present the course to the standard required by the HSA.

Course Requirements:

Light comfortable clothing is recommended due to the practical aspect of the course.   

Course Attendance:

  • Maximum of 10 participants per course.
  • 5 day duration.
